Solent Child Care was established in 2015 by Charlotte Tanner and Andrea Dodds, out of sheer heartbreak & frustration for the children in the residential settings they had both worked at for several decades. They both had a clear vision of what children needed to thrive within residential settings and so created Solent's first home The Farmhouse. We now have five homes, each of which is supported by a team of up to ten adults.
At Solent Childcare our sensitively attuned adults are crucial to the development of our children and are valued, supported and receive monthly clinical supervision. The team are trained in therapeutic parenting, child development, developmental trauma and DDP, as well as being attachment & trauma aware. Alongside this the culture within our homes is that of curiosity, acceptance, empathic regard, and bags of playfulness.
Our adults work with complex and highly vulnerable children whose maladaptive behaviours can be highly challenging and so our recruitment process is thorough looking for adults who demonstrate an ability to sensitively attune, are reflective, resilient and open to raising their own awareness of self. We pride ourselves on our low staff turnover and value our adults as their relationships with our children is the key to their healing
The operational team consists of Kirsty Sheppard and Kate Sims.
